Find Lyon County Civil Dockets

Start a Lyon County civil docket search with the case number if you have one, or a party name if you don't. The clerk of the Lyon County District Court keeps the official file, and the statewide public case system shows the docket online. A docket is just a register of events. Filings, motions, hearings, orders, and judgment signals appear in order, but a certified court record carries the authoritative text. Pick the right category too. Regular civil, limited, small-claims, family, and probate files each route differently and carry different public-access limits.

Searching Lyon County Civil Dockets

Go to Kansas Judicial Branch CaseSearch first. Accept the access terms, pick District, and choose Lyon County. Then select Civil, Family, or Probate or Mental Health. A known number works best. Modern regular civil numbers follow LY-[year]-CV-[six digits]. Older Lyon files may use a pre-prefix style. Party Name, Business Name, and Party As Business Name are separate choices. So try the right one. File Date From and To narrow filing dates only, not hearings or judgments. The interface also requires human verification. What you get is a public case-information index, not an official court record.

  1. Select District and Lyon County.
  2. Choose the civil, family, or probate category that fits.
  3. Search the known case number, party, or business.
  4. Use filing dates only when they help narrow the match.
  5. Read the event sequence and upcoming hearing separately.
  6. Request the signed or certified document when proof is needed.

Lyon County Civil Docket Categories

Civil work in Lyon County splits into several dockets, not one. The district clerk routes regular civil and small-claims questions through cvclerk@5thjd.org, limited actions through lm1clerk@5thjd.org, and domestic questions through dm2clerk@5thjd.org. One courthouse holds all these files. Their codes, procedures, and access rules still differ.

A city municipal record report is not a Lyon District Court civil docket. Municipal courts handle ordinance matters, while the Kansas district court holds the civil categories described here.

Inside a Lyon County Civil Docket

Think of the Lyon County civil docket as a short chronology. It can show the caption, case metadata, parties and roles, attorneys, assigned judge, filings, service events, motions, settings, orders, and a judgment or disposition signal. What stays hidden? Confidential attachments, settlement terms, sealed filings, and many exhibits do not appear.

Case number and typeIdentifies the county, year, division, and file sequence.
Parties and rolesPlaintiff, defendant, petitioner, respondent, or another role.

The CaseSearch footer warns that online information is not an official record. Rule 106B agrees, treating the register of action as basic dates and brief descriptions rather than the whole file.

Lyon County Civil Filing Portal

The Kansas Civil Filings page is a separate official modernization resource for new filings.

This newer page helps you spot recent filings, but it does not replace the full Lyon County civil docket in CaseSearch. Rollout notes warn about timing and rejected submissions. A brand-new filing may not yet show a complete public event chain. If a recent filing seems missing, check the county and case category first. Allow time for clerk processing, then ask the Lyon civil clerk whether the filing was accepted. An appearance on the filing page is not a final judgment. Nor does it prove that service occurred.

Civil Case Types on the Docket

Regular Lyon County civil actions cover contract, tort, real-property, and other disputes. Limited actions follow Chapter 61 boundaries. K.S.A. 61-2703 sets the current small-claims ceiling at $10,000 for recovery of money or property. A magistrate may handle the calendar. Small claims remain district-court matters. Family and probate cases share parts of the search ecosystem under distinct restrictions. Under Rule 22, protection, parentage, child-related, guardianship, and other sensitive documents can be unavailable online. Choosing Civil alone does not reach every domestic or probate category.

Lyon County Civil Docket Volume

The official FY2024 civil table lists 4,576 Lyon County filings across regular, limited, and domestic categories. Limited actions dominate at 4,025, including 4,004 limited contract filings. Regular actions total 132, and domestic filings total 419. These are filing counts, not unique parties or outcomes.

That local shape explains the dedicated limited-action mailbox. It also explains why an LM search differs from a regular CV case lookup. Domestic totals do not mean the documents are open online. Statistical counts and access rights are separate questions.

Lyon County Civil Docket Settings

The current Lyon calendar can show a civil caption, judge, and connection or party role. It may also list attorney, hearing type, date, time, courtroom, case number, and notes. A row labeled Motion, Stipulation, Hearing, or Trial on Stipulated Facts describes a setting, nothing more. It does not reproduce the complaint or judgment. The official calendar-by-date PDF is updated through the Fifth JD docket channel. It covers about one month. Search the PDF by case number when you can. Then compare the setting with the CaseSearch event. Call 620-341-3283 if the row says continued. Call it too if the date is near, or the PDF range falls short. Remember that a motion filing is not a ruling. A later order or journal entry shows what the court decided. The complete Lyon County court dates reference explains how settings, notices, and clerk confirmation fit together.

Lyon County Civil Docket Sequence

A civil file usually starts with a petition, complaint, or application. Service and a response come next, though a missing answer line does not by itself prove a lack of service. From there, motions, status conferences, discovery events, continuances, and orders can fill the middle of the register.

Civil docket flow: Filing › Service › Answer or Motion › Settings and Orders › Trial, Settlement, or Dismissal › Judgment › Post-Judgment Events

A case can stay open after trial or settlement while judgment and enforcement work continue. Garnishment, execution, satisfaction, or appeal entries may follow. Read the dated event sequence instead of trusting one status label.

Lyon County Civil Docket E-Filing

The official Kansas eFlex portal is the filing channel for authorized filers.

Lyon County civil docket Kansas eFlex filing portal

eFlex does not work as a civil docket viewer for the public. The login fields and new-user signup exist for filing, not reading. A filer account is the wrong tool for some users. Someone who just wants to follow a Lyon County civil case needs CaseSearch, the calendar, the public terminal, or the clerk instead. Electronic filing runs under Kansas Supreme Court Rule 23. That rule covers file-stamp timing and what happens to returned or rejected submissions. A transmitted document does not always show up as an accepted docket event at once. Timing can lag. When timing matters, ask the clerk to confirm that processing has finished.

Civil Docket Settings and Hearings

A setting is an event the court has scheduled. A docket event may instead record something already filed or already decided. That difference matters in Lyon County civil files. "Motion filed" means a request went in. "Motion hearing" tells you the request is now set for argument. The ruling itself exists only in a signed order.

Default judgment
A judgment entered after the required legal conditions, not the mere passing of a deadline.
Dismissal
An ending of a case or claim whose order may state whether refiling is allowed.
Stipulation
An agreement on facts or procedure that may still require court action.
Journal entry
The written court record of a ruling or procedural instruction.

If a setting gets reset, check three things side by side: the current PDF, CaseSearch, and the latest order. Fifth JD Local Rule 4 lets a contested hearing or trial be continued by written motion and order. The order is the version that controls.

Civil Docket Access Rules

Kansas public-record policy starts with K.S.A. 45-216. Rules and orders draw the electronic line from there. Rule 22 lists the case and document categories. Those categories stay inaccessible. A public civil event can stay visible even while a document or attachment is withheld.

Record distinction: A portal result is not the judgment. Use a public document link when allowed, the courthouse terminal for added public detail, or the clerk for a plain or certified copy.

The Lyon County District Court sits at 430 Commercial Street, Emporia. The phone number is 620-341-3283. A written KORA request to the Kansas court can seek a specific public record that is not exposed online. Filing that request never overrides a seal or a confidential category.

For a family or probate matter, name the exact public item you want. Don't assume the whole file is open. The clerk can tell an accessible register entry apart from a restricted filing. The clerk can quote the correct copy route.

Note: Ask the clerk for the current copy and certification quote instead of borrowing fees from a municipal court record form.
